Xpoint will have one thing fewer to worry about, as the company has managed to end a lawsuit filed against it by GeoComply, a geolocation technological rival, which alleged infringement of the latter’s proprietary technology, Casino Guru News found out.

No more. Xpoint has won a win on Friday at the US Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, which ruled that the company did not in fact infringe on the plaintiff’s proprietary tech.

Xpoint secures a legal reprieve with a win over GeoComply

The legal win has been immediately hailed by the company with the lawsuit alleging infringement of GeoComply’s anti-location spoofing method concluded.

Xpoint insisted that it has conducted its business "legally and appropriately," and criticized GeoComply for attempting to restrict competition through its patent lawsuit.

"Both the District Court and now the US Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit have held that GeoComply’s patent infringement allegations against Xpoint are meritless. The decision means that Xpoint can continue to operate and innovate freely in the geolocation technology space," a statement released by the company said.

More importantly, the court has ruled for the "invalidation of Geocomply’s patent" which was supposedly issued in a bid to monopolize a vital piece of tech, Xpoint further added in its public statement. Essentially, the court said that the technology used by GeoComply borrowed conventional programming and was not distinct enough to merit further protection under patent laws.

Xpoint’s victory, however, shows that the company is all for an open and competitive market that develops even more advanced geolocation capabilities at a time when the entire gaming industry stands to benefit. A statement was similarly issued by GeoComply, which said:

"We are disappointed by the court decisions related to patent law technicalities, and while we respect the judicial process, we stand firm in our belief that this specific innovation within our groundbreaking technology deserves protection from improper infringement."

GeoComply does stand for fostering innovation, but it protects its IP

GeoComply has dismissed accusations that it has been trying to monopolize the market and argued that it was always proud to champion fair competition in the marketplace and promote start-up innovators.

The company said that it had acted purely out of interest and that its intellectual property rights had been violated – something that the company could not leave unaddressed.

GeoComply's technology is one of the reasons why pushing some sports betting legislation was easier. The company works with established sports betting firms such as DraftKings and FanDuel, whereas Xpoint is a fairly new arrival on the market, and has partnered with PlayStar.
